The graduation requirement for English Language Arts is 40 credits. At CCHS those classes are English 9, 10, Junior Literature and Composition, and Senior Literature and Composition. In general, these classes are non UC/CSU A-G, but are standards-based with opportunities for reading, writing, listening and speaking. Writing includes essays in the various genres with an emphasis in analysis/exposition. The reading spans six genres: short stories, poetry, novels, informational materials, non-fiction, and drama. By 12th grade, study in English will also includes the study of American short stories, poetry, plays, novels, essays, vocabulary and literary terms.
